Our representative, Mr. Hirano, has been appointed as the chairperson of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's ``Study Group on Industrial Policy for Realizing a Resilient Society.''

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's ``New Innovations in Economic and Industrial Policy'' addresses the necessity of resolving social issues in the world and in Japan, as well as areas in which Japan has the potential to contribute, as a ``mission-oriented industrial policy.'' ``Realizing a resilient society'' will be considered as one of the items.

The ``Study Group on Industrial Policy for Realizing a Resilient Society'' will be comprised of experts and will be held from December 2022 to March 2023. As the potential for products and services cultivated in Japan, a disaster-prone country, to contribute to the world continues to expand, domestic companies and local governments are developing solutions that utilize not only traditional infrastructure but also digital technology to respond to disasters. It was established for the purpose of sorting out current issues and determining the direction of industrial policy to be taken in order to utilize the industrial policy in Japan and expand into overseas growth markets.

■Comment from Mirai Hirano

“I am humbled to have been asked to take on such an important role.Resilience is an urgent need for Japan, which is a disaster-prone country, and I believe it is an area in which we can take leadership internationally.I myself will be working as a member of Kishida from 2021. I serve as an expert member of the Cabinet's ``Council for the Realization of New Capitalism,'' and ``resilience'' is also discussed as one of the important keywords there. It is estimated that the damage caused by the Nankai Trough Earthquake is estimated to be up to 220 trillion yen, and the government, large companies, Combining knowledge among multiple stakeholders such as local governments, academia, and venture companies is essential to handing down a resilient society to the next generation. As this year marks the 100th anniversary of the Great Kanto Earthquake, we will do our best at this study group to become one of the waves in facing the disaster. ”
